Gander Mountain

Gander Mountain is a leading specialty retailer that serves the needs of outdoor lifestyle enthusiasts, with a particular focus on hunting, fishing, camping and boating. They provide a unique retail experience founded upon a "We Live Outdoors" culture and theme. Gander Mountain stores offer a unique store environment and an emphasis on customer service based on store associates' extensive product knowledge and outdoor-related experience, combined with broad and deep assortments of competitively priced outdoor equipment, accessories, apparel and footwear. At the end of November 2006, Gander Mountain had 105 outdoor lifestyle stores in 22 states.


Training Needs

In 2000, Gander Mountain implemented Retek's Merchandising System (RMS) and needed custom documentation and training for all headquarters and store associates.

In Fall 2006, Gander Mountain upgraded its Retek Invoice Matching, RPM (Retail Price Management), Allocation and Replenishment systems to the latest Oracle Retail versions. They were planning to conduct CRPs (Conference Room Pilots) for each system and needed training on the basic functions of the Oracle Retail products in order to effectively determine business requirements for the upgrade.


Challenges

In 2006, Gander Mountain was the first client to upgrade to Oracle Retail's 12.0 version. Gander Mountain was upgrading from Retek version 8.0. and needed to understand the intricacies of the newer version to ensure a successful implementation. Other modules were new to Gander Mountain and required detailed product review and business examples to assist them in determining requirements.es.


TEC Services and Products Delivered

In 2000, TEC developed custom documentation and training tools for Retek RMS using TEC's templates and formats. TEC also delivered its Train-The-Trainer workshop for all Gander Mountain Headquarters trainers.

In 2006, TEC developed CRP documents and training tools for the following four separate CRP's: Invoice Match, RPM, Allocation, and Replenishment. Custom documentation and training tools included:

  • User Guides

  • Presentation and meeting materials

  • Pre-Session Questionnaire

  • Business scenarios and issue follow-up

TEC conducted CRP training and facilitated the CRPs for Gander Mountain's Project Team to identify how the company would use the new technology and any changes / modifications / workarounds that would be needed.
